The world of Social Networking.

Posted on February 22nd, 2010 by Luke

Brief pause if you will allow me… from the past few posts, I’ll catch up on those later.

But - I was wondering how you fee about social networking? I mean… Twitter… Facebook… Flickr… Myspace… blogging… YouTube…. Vimeo… etc.

When I was spending some time with my family last weekend, we got into a conversation about how social media is changing the ways we interact with other people. Some members in my family thought that it was all becoming an invasion of privacy, others didnt know how they could gain benefit from it… and still most of them were just confused by it.

Well I think this video was pretty powerful: Take a look.

pretty amazing huh?

Are you a social networker? if not you may want to reconsider, take a look at a few of these stories:

Getting a Job In 140 Characters or less

You Give, and We’ll give back. - the story of how two guys raised funding for a mission trip via their blog.

Visual Worship Roundtable - Two guys create a visual media conference from the community they built on twitter/blogs/facebook!

Finding the person you love on twitter

Twitter got me a Job.

A Twitter/Blog Party. - this one is a bit of a stretch, but something I was in on.. it was a gathering of people by whom only knew about this event via twitter, blogs and face book posts… ALL SOCIAL MEDIA.

What I’m getting at here is huge, and that thing is that the core reason that social marketing has soared like it has it because of it’s relational impact on society. We as humans want to be heard… and we want to be loved. When we have 100 twitter followers, its like our friends are saying to us that we want to hear what you have to say.

What is it that you want to say?

iPhone/iPod Touch Friendly.

Posted on February 2nd, 2010 by Luke

alright -

well a lot of people have emailed, texted and called me telling me how annoying it is that I don’t have a blog that is iPhone or mobile phone friendly…

now it is!

here’s what it would have looked like if you pulled up the site on mobile safari (iphone or ipod touch) before I posted this…

photo

now of course this is supposed to work with other formats. However, I don’t have a way to track the success of those or not… so if you have an android phone, a blackberry or some other mobile device, would you mind checking to see if it works?

hopefully this makes it easier to read for you guys! Thats my goal!

Marriage. God. Jobs. and OUR future. [part 2]

Posted on February 1st, 2010 by Luke

so last time I spent some time sharing some thoughts on marriage and all that was going on with that. I HIGHLY recommend you to read the statement I put in block quotes in the middle of that post… It has really been a great launching point of discussion among friends and has allowed myself in particular to try and understand the mere nature of relationships with those of the opposite sex.

However tonight, I have some more thoughts I want to share. This time we’ll tackle the God factor that i think each and every person in my generation deals with… Who is he supposed to be in our lives, where do we fit his principles, and how can we relate to him?

So i am currently sitting in an apartment in boston, on the couch with the lights off and I can’t seem to go to bed because of the incredible thought I just had, so i immediately got out my computer and decided to write this down. I was thinking about the weekend I have just had, and started to understand in a deeper form the incredible truth God presented me with this weekend.

You see, for me, one of my closest friends of nearly 6 years moved up to boston about 18 months ago. I have visited once before to hang out, celebrate 4th of July and check out the town but ever since she moved away, I had always missed the rich conversation we seem to get lost in as we share in life together.

Many of these conversations happened to be over a cup of coffee. [Read more →]

Marriage. God. Jobs. And OUR future.

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by Luke

Well - this is it…

Thats a pretty ambitious name to title this post huh? I mean if there is anything our generation is currently wrestling with, its got to be one of those things… And this week ALL of them hit me at once. NO, i’m not married… or really even thinking about it… and I’m not an atheist, or i’m not wrestling with a job loss currently. But I do think that as we forge our way into the future, there are some things to be reminded of.

Lets first look at marriage. I feel like the past few weeks, everywhere I go I am surrounded by all things marriage. I had a friend get engaged about four weeks ago… and they are rigorously planning their wedding. I have another friend who is almost done with the planning, just putting the final touches on an early spring wedding. I had dinner this past weekend with a single guy and we spent a great deal of time talking about a wedding in his family and mentioned that the young adult group he goes to regularly just finished a whole series on relationships. Just yesterday I was talking with a friend who is a wedding photographer, and another friend who does wedding videos. Not more than a week ago my roommate from freshman year proposed to his girlfriend. I was sent another email just 10 days ago about filming a wedding myself. Currently I am building a website for another couple who is doing a digital announcement/invitation package for their wedding.. (insert breath)… and on top of ALL of this, our church just spent two weeks on marriage.

It just seems like everywhere I go, my generation seems to be obsessed with marriage [Read more →]

Influence.

Posted on January 11th, 2010 by Luke

I’ve been thinking and pondering a lot about influence over the past few days and weeks… even before christmas a little bit. I’ve been thinking about myself, my friends, and a ton of people that I have never meet but watch them and how they use their influence.

Influence is really one of the most powerful things we as human being can have. I mean if you think about it… influence is the reason that Tiger Woods made more than $117,000,000.00 last year. It’s the endorsements that make him successful.

Influence is a key part in creating a movie that [Read more →]
